Learn and Grow
...in Religious School
The
Religious School
offers age-appropriate programs from Consecration through Post-Confirmation
(Kindergarten - 12th grade). The curriculum is challenging, yet
individually tailored, and the atmosphere assumes a "learning with
joy" approach. You can learn more about our educational program
at our
Religious Education Home Page.
The
Primary Division (K-2) uses a curriculum based on holidays, Bible stories, Israel
and an introduction to Hebrew. Material is presented through books,
worksheets, games, music, art and other "hands-on" methods such
as the model seder and visits to the
sukkah.
The
Elementary Division's curriculum is based on the study of Hebrew,
Judaica and prayer. The Judaica curriculum is designed to
help the students develop a strong Jewish identity through
classwork, exposure to audiovisual materials, art, music
and Israeli dance. The Hebrew curriculum teaches the
students vocabulary, grammar and prayers.
The 5th and 6th grades attend regular Junior Congregation services on Shabbat mornings,
as part of their curriculum, to make them familiar with the service
as well as prepare them for Bar/Bat Mitzvah.
To be eligible for
Bar/Bat Mitzvah, students at M'kor Shalom must complete at least
five years of synagogue-based religious education.
The
Family Track and
Torah U'Mitzvot (Learning Through Doing) programs
are creative and exciting ways to complement and enrich the Bar/Bat
Mitzvah year.
The
High School Division offers an elective curriculum that is designed
to spark the interest of our 8th and 9th grade students.
Courses range from the study of the Holocaust to Life Cycle
to Current Events to Jewish Arts.
